He is one of 9 Commissioners appointed by Governor Greg Abbott, Lt. Governor Dan Patrick, and Speaker of the House Dade Phelan to drive the economic development of the commercial space industry. This appointment highlights his outstanding leadership in the aerospace and defense sector with a vision to rapidly advance the build-out of the space industry with measured economic impacts for the State of Texas, the U.S., and allied Defense interests.
Morrison commented, “We must win the new space race, and now is the time for the U.S., our Allies, and Texas to lead. It will take all types of innovative companies from all over the world, public-private partnerships, and capital markets to seize this multi- trillion-dollar opportunity for the benefit of humankind. With over two decades of experience in Big 5 consulting, corporate development, and as chief executive of multiple technology startups, he brings hands-on executive leadership that spans telecommunications, cybersecurity, and defense business. His background includes recognition as a Distinguished Graduate of the United States Air Force Academy and a Master of Science degree from Southern Methodist University's School of Engineering and Applied Science.
Throughout his career, Morrison has been actively involved in various leadership roles, including Business Executives National Security (BENS), the Texas Business Leadership Council, and Past Chairman of the Texas Lyceum. His comprehensive understanding of deep tech commercialization, team building, and entrepreneurial capitalization has solidified his position as a trusted advisor and board member to leading aerospace and defense companies looking for bespoke capital markets solutions. Within the firm, he is leading efforts to help transition military veterans under the Department of Defense Skillbridge program to become licensed investment bankers. “What a wonderful way to give back and help former military service members realize their opportunity to continue to serve by helping capitalize dual-use companies that deliver warfighting capabilities for our sailors, soldiers, airmen, marines, and guardians,” he commented.
